Some ideas of places that you can visit as part of a trip to The But & Ben.

Devil’s Pulpit

Located a few miles away, a dramatic spot which has featured in numerous feature films and TV programmes, including Outlander. Descent into the gorge can be slippery, so take care on the steps down and please park responsibly.

John Muir Way

Scotland’s coast to coast path, celebrating legendary Scot John Muir who helped to introduce National Parks in North America. The trail passes by The But & Ben so take a break and enjoy a well earned break and tasty treat.

NCN 7 Cycle Path

National Route 7 Lochs and Glens Way cycle path passes by The But & Ben. The path south goes to Balloch and Glagow, head north for the village of Drymen before heading into the Trossachs. Enjoy great cycling through spectacular scenery.

Balmaha

One of Scotland’s prettiest villages is just 15 minutes from The But & Ben. Nestled on the banks of Loch Lomond there are lots of walks to enjoy. You can take a ferry to Inchcailloch Island.

Balloch

Balloch is just 15 minutes away. At Loch Lomond Shores there is shopping and leisure activities. It is also home to The Maid of the Loch. Loch Lomond’s last paddle steamer that is being restored.

Glengoyne

Another nearby gem is Glengoyne Distillery, which is just 15 minutes away from The But & Ben. Check with them in advance of a visit for availability of tours and tastings. There is an excellent shop.

RSPB

RSPB have two reserves in Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. The closest is less than 10 minutes away in Gartocharn. As well as birds you can see some pond life, get great views of Ben Lomond and maybe see a red squirrel.

Conic Hill

Conic Hill is on the West Highland Way. Follow the John Muir Way from The But & Ben before joining the West Highland Way outside of Drymen. The path will eventually take you over Conic Hill and into Balmaha, Loch Lomond.

Drymen

It’ll take you about an hour to walk from The But & Ben into the pretty village of Drymen, via the connecting pathways. The village square and green is the heart of the community. During the summer a pipe band plays each Thursday night.
